Last.fm

Last.fm is my most recently-discovered, and current favorite, social networking site. My last.fm profile can be found here. On my profile, you can see everything from my most-played artists of the past seven days, the Beatles and Pendulum, to my most-played artist of all time, Fall Out Boy. Friends can also connect on last.fm and see what each other are listening to and have listened to. You can connect to a friend's or other user's library and listen to their music, or browse through artists and genres and listen to songs that way. Last.fm is a great way to expose yourself to new artists and styles of music that you may like. It is also an interesting catalogue of your own and your friends' music-listening habits. For example, I learned that I need to lay off of Fall Out Boy for a while, because 3,000+ plays is far too many. And I learned that a few of my friends, Catie Vernon and Jordan Fish, have great taste in music and I should listen to their suggestions more often. [As I often find myself listening to their libraries when I am at a loss for a song to play.] Last.fm is a great site for discovering new music and connecting with friends who have similar tastes.

2. Blip.fm

Blip.fm is another site I had heard of for a while, but only just discovered and started using. My blip.fm profile is connected to my Twitter, and whenever I "blip" a new song, it posts as a tweet. To blip a song, you merely search the title and artist, add your own comments, and a link is posted to liste to the song. Blip.fm allows you to "be a DJ" and broadcast your favorite songs for all of your Twitter followers and Blip friends to hear. You can select one song, or create and entire stream of music for listeners to play. Friends can follow your blips, and you can give "props" when you like music that another person has played. I also have my blips set to update on my Facebook, so that my friends can see what I'm listening to and be exposed to new music.

3. Strike Gently

Strike Gently is a pop culture gossip, news, and downloading site that I have often heard about and just recently looked into. SG is famous for their internet drama, as the website often offends both generic pop-punk bands and other music news sites. It's raw, brutal, and occasionally X-rated, so some may take offense... but I prefer to just laugh. Movies and television shows can also be streamed from the Strike Gently site, and many SG posts include links to download songs, albums, movies, or music videos, of course with a disclaimer which explains that such downloads are for promotional purposes only and should be deleted within 24 hours. I've found everything from the newly-leaked Lady Gaga album to a stream of New Moon on this site. I've also discovered new bands such as Ghostland Observatory. It's an interesting website which really enforces the idea of "try before you buy."

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-859406736670923532009-06-02T11:40:00.002-04:002009-06-02T11:58:31.457-04:00I'm tired of Blogger. I honestly thought that I would enjoy watching Metro Station's set at the Believers Never Die tour, and looking back I have no idea why I ever thought that. Are Metro's songs enjoyable? Yes. But it is very clear from watching their music videos, and even clearer from their live performance, that they have no stage presence whatsoever.

Of course they were preceded by Cobra Starship, making Trace Cyrus and Mason Musso look even less dynamic in comparison to Gabe Saporta. Not that they don't try. In fact, I don't know that I've ever seen a band try so hard to look like quintessential movie "rockstars." Unfortunately they fell more in the ranks of Lifetime movies. Enough to draw you in, but nothing compared to the quality of, for example, Warner Brothers films.

I've only ever really enjoyed two Metro Station songs, "Shake It" and "Control." They began their set singing a song that I had never even heard of, and the only people in my vicinity who were singing along were two little girls in front of me. One part of the dynamic that just does not work is the fact that, although Mason is the lead singer, they give Trace the front role, presumably because he is of Cyrus blood. And I have to be completely honest... Trace Cyrus is scary. His voice is low, raspy, and eerie, like something out of a horror movie. He spends half of his time teasing little girls by lifting his shirt to show his pale, tattoo-covered frame; the other half of the time, he is jumping awkwardly off of the bass drum, trying to show off his "rocker" moves.

All the while, Mason stood awkwardly at the front of the stage, singing and playing without moving an inch. Metro finally began playing songs that I at least recognized, and they sounded exactly like they do on the CD. So it wasn't a total loss, but I would definitely rather sit at home and listen to their CD than ever pay money to see them in concert again. If a band isn't going to put on an entertaining show or get the audience involved, their presence adds nothing to the atmosphere, and a music video is potentially more interesting to watch.

Photos by Sarah Maloy in Columbus, Ohio on May 13, 2009.

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-74112228286331180122009-05-16T18:15:00.000-04:002009-05-16T23:41:03.321-04:00Cobra Starship: Intoxication at its finest."I've crashed up joints in Tokyo, and I may not be loved, but they always recall my name. The outdoor pavilion show last night was a vastly different atmosphere than the club show they headlined this fall, so it is completely fair to review them again.

Cobra was the second of five acts to perform at the Believers Never Die Part Deux show in Columbus, Ohio, but they definitely did not perform like a traditional opening act. I'm completely biased towards Fall Out Boy, but were I not, I might argue that Cobra actually upstaged them last night. Considering Pete Wentz's worship of lead singer Gabe Saporta and his former band, Midtown, I'm fairly certain that Pete would agree with me on that point. Because if there is one thing that Gabe has, it's stage presence. From the moment he stepped on stage, downing a red Solo cup full of Red Bull and vodka, to the moment he introduced Metro Station, dove into the crowd, and then dashed backstage, the audience was intoxicated. (I know what he was drinking because not only is it all he ever drinks, but he threw the cup into the audience and I found myself covered in Gabe's drink of choice.)

They started the show the way they always do, with their strongest, fastest, and most popular song, "City Is At War." Rarely does a crowd sing along with an opening act, but the audience last night knew every word of every Cobra Starship song, including a song that is barely a month old, "Pete Wentz Is The Only Reason We're Famous." This was especially surprising when Fall Out Boy took the stage and played a few songs that the majority of the audience did not know. Granted, Fall Out Boy has five albums and Cobra has only two, but it was still supposed to be Fall Out Boy's tour.

When Cobra started playing my personal favorite song, "Kiss My Sass," it was clear that Gabe was overflowing with exactly that: sass. If Gabe ever stops playing music, I suggest that he become a motivational speaker. Despite the fact that Gabe is incredibly nerdy, he has so much attitude and is so unique that the audience rallies behind him as if he held the cure to cancer. Gabe is known for his dance skills, and there is no doubt that the boy can move, but I enjoyed being one of the few in the crowd who realized that he was copying Carlton's famous dance from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. At the after-concert party, I decided that Gabe could also definitely make a living as a DJ. Because no one else could go into a club and play everything from D.J. Assault to Journey and have the crowd dancing and singing along.

Due to the extremely short set, the other members of the band were not able to shine as much as they had when Cobra headlined, but they nonetheless remain the best live band I've seen to date.

Gabe's energy is difficult to describe, so I included a video of him singing "Kiss My Sass." Sorry the sound quality isn't the best:

Photos and video by Sarah Maloy in Columbus, Ohio on May 13, 2009.

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-45224360821358824832009-05-14T13:51:00.003-04:002009-05-14T13:55:58.941-04:00Best. Concert. Ever.So last night was probably one of the greatest nights of my life. It was the best concert, both entertainment- and musicality-wise, that I have ever been to. Not to mention the fact that I met and had the opportunity to hang out with all of my favorite musicians. In short: It was amazing, and I will now proceed to write show reviews for each of the bands!

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-36353248210467314832009-05-02T13:01:00.006-04:002009-05-02T13:15:51.705-04:00Reporters: Stop abusing social media or it will be your own fault when newspapers die. This is the guest blog I did for ZooLoo. I republished it here so that my readers could see it and so that it would be in my archives.

As the lines between traditional and new media continue to blur, I've noticed that news outlets have begun getting story tips from Twitter. They have even taken to quoting Twitter posts in their articles.

I saw two such occurrences earlier this week. On Monday morning, stories started flooding the internet revolving around a series of Twitter updates posted on Sunday night by band members from pop-punk bands We the Kings and Forever the Sickest Kids. While loading their van after a performance in Philadelphia at the Theatre of Living Arts, police confronted the bands and, according to the tweets, started beating and harassing them.

Alternative Press, a magazine based out of Cleveland, Ohio, reported the incident the next day, using quotes from the band members' personal Twitters. Other news outlets picked up the story, though I saw none who actually spoke to a band member or police representative.

The second instance also happened on Sunday, when Joel Madden, the lead singer of punk band Good Charlotte and boyfriend of Nicole Richie, was forced to cover his tattoos before boarding a flight with British Airways. He tweeted during and after the experience, and his story was picked up by news outlets from America to Australia.

Not only did the reporters not speak to Madden directly, but he later blogged about the incident, saying that there was nothing newsworthy to the story, and no reason for it to even be reported.

So the question presents itself: Is using social media sources lazy or innovative? I personally think it's lazy. If I were an editor at a news outlet, I would encourage my reporters to use social media for ideas and leads, but I would not allow a story to be comprised of Twitter quotes.

I've noticed a lot of reporters starting to become dependent on social media to cite their stories, but I hadn't heard much about it. A quick Google search told me that I clearly hadn't been paying attention, because this is a widely discussed topic.

There are those who say that social media is destroying the traditional media; but is it possibly reporters’ own fault? In a world where reporters use tweets as quotes and Twitterers as sources, I say that those reporters are to blame if the audience chooses to forego his reporting and just read the tweets on their own. Newspapers and magazines should go out and get quotes and ideas that the average person doesn't have access to.

I've always been a firm believer in the idea that, while news print may die, newspapers will live on through the internet. This will not be the case, however, if reporters allow themselves to be overtaken by social media. Getting a lead or an idea from Twitter is fine, but back it up with additional sources and research, don't just reiterate what was already available in readers' Twitterfeeds.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 318px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/Sfx9w13h3zI/AAAAAAAAAJI/oj8zYznZ4og/s400/SupermanBlog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5331274336947003186" />

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-33517037029163740172009-04-29T19:54:00.005-04:002009-04-29T19:58:35.857-04:00Blurring the lines between traditional and new mediaCheck out my ZooLoo blog post, "Blurring the lines between traditional and new media." Be sure to comment and tag your tweets with #ZooLoo to let me know what you think!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 304px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/SfjpQrPTN2I/AAAAAAAAAJA/H562xN27DBU/s400/NewspaperObama.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5330266631687059298" />I found this comic when I was writing the blog... It will appeal to avid readers of Postsecret and FMyLife.com, but every user's experience is different, and you have the option to control which type of statement you see. Twistori is a collection of Twitter updates with key words in them: I love, I hate, I think, I believe, I feel, or I wish. The user visits the site, clicks on whichever key words they want to read about, and Twitter updates begin to scroll across the screen.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 166px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/Se4G9BHJ5WI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/DR-VHPhSvOY/s400/Picture+16.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327203054566106466" />Perhaps you're in a bad mood and you want to see what people hate. If you click on "I hate," you could see anything from, "I hate when sleep doesn't fix everything." to "Completely digging the Lolla lineup, but... oh how I hate huge crowds of drunk assholes. At least I only live 2 blocks from the 'venue.'" Or if you've just fallen in love and you want to see what others love, you could read "Watching Tom and Jerry. I love. that. cartoon." or something deeper, "I love learning shit in class. FACT: US citizens have NO constitutional right to privacy...news to me!"

The Twistori website is well-done, user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing. I could definitely spend a large segment of my time reading through these groupings of updates. The only problem is that if I want to know more about a person... there is no option to direct me to his or her Twitter page. Theoretically I could remember the phrase and go type it into Twitter search, but that defeats the purpose of anonymity which made such sites (Postsecret, FMyLife, Twistori) successful. We all want to relate to someone, but if we know too much, statements are no longer generic and the connection is gone.

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-12769442960277860552009-04-20T11:40:00.004-04:002009-04-20T17:24:54.978-04:00Spread the word!

My ZooLoo Logo
Originally uploaded by sarahmaloy
Are you ready to ZooLoo? So of course I wrote a blog about "Fight Club" and Fall Out Boy.I know it's completely cliche to be obsessed with Fight Club, but every night as I'm drifting off to sleep, I find myself staring at the Fight Club poster mounted beside my bed, and I begin to analyze its every detail. This is highly escalated on nights such as tonight, when I find myself unable to fall asleep. And of course, tonight of all nights, I was looking at my Fight Club poster when Fall Out Boy's "20 Dollar Nose Bleed" began to play and I was graced with the sounds of Patrick Stump asking, "Where will I be when I wake up next to a stranger on a passenger plane? Permanent jet lag, please take me back, please take me back, please take me back."

I really have little purpose for this blog, and I might make it private in the morning, but I just had to write this to get it out of my head. I could probably be happy spending the rest of my life listening to Fall Out Boy and watching Fight Club. There are an infinite number of things to analyze, discuss, expand upon, etc. in those songs and that movie. In fact, I think that one night when I'm not five and a half hours from morning, I'm going to write an entire entry about Fight Club. I'll include my thoughts, my ideas, my analyzations, and my questions about the movie, and hopefully we can all discuss it in the comments.

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-52073810988889762722009-04-19T23:04:00.013-04:002009-04-20T02:12:40.781-04:00Oprah = Fail Whale? The Twitterverse is chirping lately with talk about Oprah and the number (estimates range from 300,000 to 1.5 million) of users she brought onto Twitter when she signed up for the service and publicized it on live television. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone said that by later this week he will have the exact number of users who signed up thanks to Oprah, but it is abundantly clear that she made an impact. Not only is Twitter once again constantly over capacity and full of fail whales, but Oprah, #Oprah, and #herebeforeoprah have all been trending topics lately.

Oprah Winfrey (@oprah) had more than 35,000 followers before she even sent her first tweet. By the end of day one, she had gained more than 300,000 additional followers. She also inspired the creation of HereBeforeOprah.com, a site which allows users to enter a screenname and see if said user was on Twitter before Oprah. I'm not entirely sure why this is neccessary... I guess it just instills a bit of notoriety and allows the "original users" (similar to original gangsters) to feel good about themselves. I won't deny that I felt a bit impressive when I searched my name and saw the result-- "@smaloy was here before @oprah."

Twitter is at that awkward social media stage between niche and mass popularity when new users are flooding the system and original users are getting irritated with the popularity and changes (including rumblings of advertisements) that are happening to the system. While Oprah may have sped up the process, I'm certain that Twitter would have breached the gap into universal popularity in the near future, regardless. Twitter is one of my personal favorite websites, but like Xanga, Myspace, and Facebook before it, it is just another social media site that begins with niche popularity, becomes the next big trend, and eventually goes back to intermittent use when something new comes along.

Check out a screenshot of @Oprah's recent tweets:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 512px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/SevyqeUIlEI/AAAAAAAAAH4/Ozo40sfkzv4/s400/Picture+5.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326617795801683010" />
Photo of Oprah learning Twitter via www.nytimes.com.
Screenshot of Oprah's tweets via twitter.com/oprah.

Update: Apparently Evan Williams, CEO of Twitter, read my blog. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 61px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/SewSPlOHB_I/AAAAAAAAAIA/4N835DFL7Vg/s400/Picture+6.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5326652518171084786" />That or this tweet is a coincidence... I saw it as brilliant, intricate, beautiful, and, in a strange way, uplifting. I'm not going to spoil the movie to anyone who hasn't seen it, but I recommend that everyone go see it. When it ended tonight, the theatre full of college students was silent, and there was hardly a dry eye in the house. It's an amazing movie and everyone should have a reason to cry from time to time.

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-63250654961554376792009-04-18T17:59:00.003-04:002009-04-18T18:12:26.501-04:00Flickr... I took the plunge. So I finally got a Flickr account! I don't anyone who has one, so if you do... become one of my contacts! I'm always the first person I know who gets any social media account, so I'm sure I will be able to soon bring friends to the Flickrverse. I love being the first of my friends to dive into a social media site, as I did with Xanga, Myspace, Facebook, Blogger, Twitter, etc. It makes me feel cool to be fully versed in something while others are struggling to understand. Plus I love teaching people new things on the web! =]

You can check out my Flickr at www.Flickr.com/people/SarahMaloy. Right now it's just a few obnoxious Photobooth pictures of myself, but I plan on soon uploading all of my concert and politics pictures, my ZooLoo "buzz" pictures, and whatever else I find in my computer archives!

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-53874231046277866022009-04-18T01:39:00.007-04:002009-11-27T02:10:43.532-05:00Have you missed me? I've been getting ready to ZooLoo! And I'm ready. Are you?Although this blog is definitely not a "This is my life. Aren't you so interested?" sort of blog, I decided to post something letting everyone know what I've been up to lately... because it's exciting!

I'm a Twitter frequenter. It's a bit of an obsession... but everyone already knows that. I've recently started following the #printern hashtag, and I saw a post for an internship in Scottsdale, AZ with a soon-to-be-launched website: ZooLoo.

I looked into the job and it basically looked amazing. The application was unique, but in my world, fairly typical. I had to submit a resume... and an application video. Just like I did for Warped Tour. Well apparently second time is the charm, because my video was infinitely better, and I felt much more confident about it. While some of the applicants went the route of creative, commercial-esque videos, I chose to just talk about myself and let my personality show. I've gotten better at talking to a camera, and I felt like this video was a good reflection of my personality. I also worked to create a buzz about ZooLoo, and when they put the interns up to a viral vote, I worked to create a buzz about me and ZooLoo! Apparently something I did worked, because I made it to the second round of the intern contest.

I'm really excited about this whole thing. While I don't yet know exactly what ZooLoo is... all my research leads me to believe I will like it. And I definitely think that I could fit into the world of the ZooLoo company. So be sure to check out ZooLoo, check out the other applicants and contest details on the ZooLoo blog, and help me to spread the ZooLoo word! Promote what I'm sure will be an awesome website, and help me out by posting blog entries, twittering about ZooLoo, joining my Facebook group, and just doing anything you see fit!

You guys are the greatest, and I'm so excited about the community I've been able to mobilize these past few days. I can't wait to see it grow, and I hope I can also help to grow the ZooLoo community this summer!

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-47951494788700050932009-04-18T01:33:00.003-04:002009-04-18T01:39:17.561-04:00Okay... this time I'm coming back for real.I feel like a failure when I look at my blog and there is no update in the past few days-- Let alone the length of time I've let my blog go now! Unacceptable. I can't believe all the changes that Blogger has made in the time I've been gone... I can now email in blogs and photos? Awesome. And there's a "monetize" link... Not sure what that's all about. I guess Blogger probably takes a big chunk of users' earnings, so it's in their benefit to show bloggers how to properly utilize AdSense. I'm one of those people who needs the "monetize link," but I really don't care that much. I'm not blogging to make money... although my blog has raked in a grand total of $5.98 since I first logged in in July. Um... Score?! So not that this needed an entire blog post... but I feel better about myself when I post, and the fact that people have been commenting on random old posts lately shows me that, apparently, you like it, too! Not only are they an amazing punk band, but they are some of the nicest people I have ever met on tour. Originally signed on the Fueled By Ramen label, (Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Cobra Starship, etc.,) they decided to part ways after FBR began to move towards other styles of music. In 2008, the A.K.A.s released Everybody Make Some Noise after signing with Metropolis Records.

I personally think that this split from FBR was the best thing that ever happened to the band, because I like Everybody Make Some Noise infinitely more than White Doves and Smoking Guns, their album released under FBR. Now don't misinterpret me, because I enjoy both albums, but there is just something so much more unique about their sophomore release.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 272px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/SaZFr0UzUqI/AAAAAAAAAHU/04Sq2HTK5CQ/s400/100_1117+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307005829985292962" />
Now unfortunately, without the Fueled By Ramen PR machine backing the band, they are far less appreciated than they should be. But trust me, any lack of fame is not due to lack of talent, or even lack of effort. The A.K.A.s run such an amazing grassroots effort that I'm surprised they haven't yet been recruited by a politician or two.

In fact, the only reason I even came to know about the A.K.A.s was because of their omnipresence in the crowd at Warped Tour 2008. Everywhere I looked that day, I saw hot pink stickers with their name and set time on them. When I walked through the merch booths, the A.K.A.s stood out because they were one of the only bands who spent the entire day at their tent. I'm not sure who took over while they were performing, but every other minute of the day had at least part of the band at their tent, drawing in passersby to have conversations, enter a contest, sign an eco-pledge, and buy some one-of-a-kind merch, printed on recycled clothing from thrift stores.

And I was already hooked, before I even saw their show. A show which only further convinced me that the A.K.A.s are awesome. I had, up to that point, never seen such an energetic and entertaining live show. Ironically, Cobra Starship, whose concert I missed to see the A.K.A.s at Warped, is the only band I know of who can compete with the A.K.A.s' live shows.

I'm so glad that Kevin Lyman took notice of the A.K.A.s this year, and I can't wait to see them out on tour this summer.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_71IV4ElJncM/SaZFsFvYmzI/AAAAAAAAAHc/nvST2ADCqg0/s400/100_1119+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307005834660191026" />
Photos of the A.K.A.s taken by Sarah Maloy at Warped Tour 2008 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-41849374115166459482009-02-24T19:55:00.002-05:002009-02-24T20:11:08.535-05:00Jeffree Star deserves at least a chance, right? This year at Warped Tour, I'm going to give Jeffree Star a chance. Shocking, right? But I just feel like I need to step out of my comfort zone. Yes, he's fun to mock and yes, it's bizarre that he's on Warped Tour, but Kevin Lyman booked him for a reason. Last year, everyone questioned the decision to put Katy Perry on the tour, but Warped is where I discovered her. And I really like One of The Boys-- regardless of how overplayed "I Kissed a Girl" is. Plus, between Warped Tour YouTube videos and TheMadeUp, I really feel like Katy brought something positive to the tour.

But I digress. Back to Jeffree...

He's a little weird and sort of creepy and it's not always clear whether he is a man or a woman, but maybe his music is good. Or maybe it's at least fun. Either way, he has to have some redeeming qualities, right? So I will give him a chance. I've judged him without ever listening to one of his songs, and that's not fair. "Miss Boombox," here I come... I'll let you know what happens.

While you're here, take a poll. What do you think of Jeffree Star?

What do you think of Jefree Star?

Love him.
Hate him.
He is okay.
What a creeper.
Who cares?

Results

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-54157263962039245112009-02-24T19:38:00.001-05:002009-02-24T19:39:32.681-05:00Dear Readers,Dear Readers,

I apologize profusely for my lack of updates.
Two new blogs are on their way!

Thanks,
Sarah Maloy

Sarah Maloyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10910510470747589897maloy.sarah@gmail.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217492463004408285.post-73465951472920893432009-02-19T02:45:00.001-05:002009-02-19T02:46:22.684-05:00Can I still call title this blog "Warped Wednesday" even though it's 2:45 a.m. on Thursday?Warped Wednesday- 3oh!3

Of all the bands I'm looking forward to seeing on this year's Warped Tour, the band I'm most excited for is probably 3oh!3. Although I'm not really sure that former male models with an iPod and microphones can qualify as a band, I know that 3oh!3 is a show that should not be missed.

I'm a lyrics and beat person. I know I should care more about the musicality of a song, but I just don't. I'm perfectly capable of appreciating musical talent, but if the lyrics mean nothing and if the song doesn't draw me in, musical talent is irrelevant. And if a song is entertaining and makes me want to dance, but the band doesn't even play instruments-- I just put it in the "guilty pleasure" category.

And so I am a 3oh!3 fan. Call it a guilty pleasure if you will, but they're worth listening to. Especially because they're touring the AP tour with a live band, and rumor has it that they will be playing this way on Warped.

Last year I missed out on 3oh!3 because it wasn't until I got home from Warped and popped in my newly-purchased compilation CD that I discovered the beauty that is "Punk Bitch." Soon after, I listened to "Don't Trust Me" and, like many before me, I fell in love. Not only does the song have the line, "do the Helen Keller, and talk with your hips," but it sticks in your head for weeks at a time... in a good way.

3oh!3- Don't Trust Me

3oh3 - New Music - More Music Videos

Once again the WMG/YouTube battle has forced me to embed an edited MTV music video rather than a complete version...
